Phillips Murrah's Paying It Forward amplifies the message of one non-profit organization each month, all year long
Since December of 2020, Phillips Murrah has partnered with Oklahoma NPR radio station KGOU to sponsor broadcast announcements each month that shine a light on a selected non-profit organization. Our aim is to amplify each beneficiary organizations’ needs and goals, and to help increase awareness, drive volunteer quality and quantity, assist in fundraising support, and improve capacity to deliver service to the community.
Our Paying it Forward beneficiary in October is Palomar, Oklahoma City’s Justice Center. #PIFOKC
Palomar, Oklahoma City's Justice Center
October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, and Palomar’s mission takes on even greater significance. Palomar aims to build a resilient and healing community in Oklahoma City that prioritizes victims and survivors and provides a compassionate and supportive environment for them and their children during the recovery process.
In collaboration with local agencies, Palomar offers a wide range of services to those affected by domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, stalking, elder abuse, and human trafficking. As a Family Justice Center, they partner with organizations—many of which are housed within their facility—to carry out this mission.
Recently, Phillips Murrah Director Eric Davis and members of the firm’s 2023 Diversity Fellowship Program were given a tour of Palomar. They observed some of the vital onsite services, such as pro bono legal assistance, offered to survivors through Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma and the Palomar Legal Network.
Support for Palomar can come in many forms, including joining Voices OKC, a survivor-led advocacy group, or participating in a secondary survivor group that meets monthly. Palomar has also established a Teen Board, which educates young people about the organization’s mission and empowers them to represent their peers. Additionally, they offer Camp HOPE, an evidence-based camp designed for children who have witnessed violence.
