Phillips Murrah was proud to be an Associate Sponsor of the Oklahoma Single Parent Scholarship Program’s (OSPSP) annual fundraiser, Reach for the Stars, held on Oct. 1 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Phillips Murrah Director Nikki Edwards, an original OSPSP board member, was a speaker at the event, where she reflected on the organization’s origin, vision, and remarkable growth over the past decade during the event.
OSPSP helps low-income single parents in central Oklahoma to fulfill their dreams of self-sufficiency through post-secondary education. In 2026, they provided 85 $1,200 scholarships. This year’s event marked a special milestone, celebrating the Oklahoma Single Parent Scholarship Program’s 10th anniversary. During the past decade, they have granted $456,800 in direct assistance to Oklahoma Single Parents.
The featured keynote speaker was Anne Lamott, a celebrated author whose work spans seven novels and numerous bestselling nonfiction books. Known for her wit, honesty, and deeply personal voice, Lamott has written some of the most beloved books in contemporary literature, including Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son’s First Year, a candid memoir about navigating single motherhood in Northern California; Some Assembly Required: A Journal of My Son’s First Son; and Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, widely regarded as one of the finest guides to the craft of writing ever written. Her most recent work, Good Writing: 36 Ways to Improve Your Sentences, co-authored with her husband Neal Allen, continues her tradition of offering readers practical wisdom with warmth and humor. Lamott has also penned a series of autobiographical essays exploring faith, resilience, and the human experience.
Representing Phillips Murrah at the event were Directors Phoebe Barber, Hilary Clifton, Marc Edwards, Nikki Edwards, Heather Hintz, and Kathryn Terry, and attorneys Amelia Marquis, Natalie McMahan, and Kelly Offutt.
