Each year since 2021, Phillips Murrah has recognized National Hispanic Heritage Month by funding a college scholarship through the Latino Community Development Agency (LCDA) in Oklahoma City. The scholarship honors the memory of late Phillips Murrah Director Shannon K. Emmons, who was deeply passionate about community service and proudly served as Vice Chairman of the LCDA Board of Directors. The 2026 Shannon K. Emmons Memorial Scholarship recipient will be announced in spring 2027.
National Hispanic Heritage Month, observed September 15 through October 15, celebrates the cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Phillips Murrah is proud to honor the heritages rooted in all Latin American countries and remains committed to supporting the Oklahoma City Latino community through meaningful partnerships like this one.
In 2026, Breanne Cordero, a nursing student at Rose State College, received the Shannon K. Emmons Memorial Scholarship.
In 2025, Yvette Perilla was named the Shannon K. Emmons Memorial Scholarship recipient. Yvette is now a junior at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in architecture.
In 2024, Stephanie Rose Castillo received the scholarship. Stephanie is now a senior studying civil engineering at the University of Oklahoma and has been an active member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Latinos Without Borders, Engineering Pathways, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, President’s Community Scholars, and the Society of Women Engineers. As a Latina woman in STEM, she is committed to inspiring others through confidence, empowerment, and mentorship.
In 2023, Phillips Murrah Director Kayla M. Kuri presented a $1,000 scholarship check to graduating Santa Fe South student Adrian Ibarra Alonso.
The Latino Community Development Agency serves the Oklahoma City Latino community through a holistic approach to client services, addressing the physical, mental, and behavioral health needs of infants, children, and teens.
