Two teams from Phillips Murrah recently competed in the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma fundraiser, Bowl for Kids’ Sake. AMF Windsor Lanes hosted Phillips Murrah and other fundraising groups on Aug. 22 for a night of bowling fun and fundraising for a good cause.
Attorney Camille N. Burge and staff member Curt Bauer led the two teams. Camille’s team, called Torts Illustrated, included staff member JaCar King, and attorneys Colby Karcher, Hilda Loury, Kelsey Chilcoat, and Heath Garwood. On Curt’s team, called the Mighty Warriors, were staff members Deena Baker, Lindsay Morse, Sherree Williams, Tifany Manning, and Mindy Carrell.
“This year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of our friends and colleagues at Phillips Murrah,” Camille said. “Overall, the agency raised over $70,000 to support mentoring matches in our community. BBBS Oklahoma City is making tremendous strides, and I’m proud to be a part of this amazing organization.”
Camille, an attorney representing individuals and companies in civil litigation and family law matters, is a member of the Big Brother Big Sister of Oklahoma Resource Board.
Phillips Murrah Director Byrona Maule, who leads our Firm’s BBBS fundraising efforts but was unable to attend the bowling event, is currently serving on the Governing Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters for a second time, having served from 2012–2015, including as Chair from 2013–2015. Byrona’s distinguished service to Big Brothers Big Sisters began in 1990 when she became a Big Sister to Vanessa—a relationship that enriched her life in ways she never imagined. To date, Byrona has had three Little Sisters complete the program. She joined the BBBS Oklahoma City Area Resource Board in 2007, and since then, her devotion has garnered awards that include Big Sister of the Year, Oklahoma City in 2009, Big Sister of the Year, State of Oklahoma in 2009, and the celebrated Champion of the Year, State of Oklahoma in 2011. Also, Byrona and her husband, Marvin, won the Big Couple Match for their match with little brother Quintin in 2013.
Big Brothers Big Sisters operates under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities in Oklahoma. BBBS develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
