On Sunday, April 14, just before tip-off of the final game of the 2023-2024 Thunder regular season, four attorneys from the law firm of Phillips Murrah walked out to center court to present a donation check for $28,900 to The Thunder Cares Foundation.

The donation is the current-season total amount resulting from Phillips Murrah’s Blocks for Bucks corporate partnership with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Phillips Murrah has now donated a total of $124,000 to benefit Thunder Cares in seven seasons of our Blocks for Bucks initiative.

Presenting the check were OKC Thunder Vice President of Community Engagement, Christine Berney, and Phillips Murrah attorneys Phoebe M. Barber, Kelsey A. Chilcoat, Hilda Loury, and Liz V. Salomone.

“I had the best time representing Phillips Murrah with my friends and colleagues to present the Blocks for Bucks check to Thunder Cares!” Phoebe said. “The arena was buzzing with excitement leading up to the final home game of our stellar season before the playoffs. I’m so glad our firm has such a strong relationship with the Thunder and uses it in a way to give back to our community!”

“Our Firm is extraordinarily proud of our partnership with the Oklahoma City Thunder,” Hilda added. “We are not only honored to make a profound impact in our community through our annual donation to the Thunder Cares Foundation, but we are also delighted to support our team that is a cultural centerpiece of our great city. The energy in the Paycom Center for the last home game of our historic season and leading into the playoffs was out-of-this-world.”

The premise of Blocks for Bucks is simple: For each blocked shot that the Thunder forces at home games during the regular season, Phillips Murrah donates $100 to Thunder Cares. As the Thunder team racks up blocks throughout the season, video highlights are posted at the Blocks for Bucks page on the Thunder’s website, along with a blocks counter and a running donation amount tally.

Blocks for Bucks began in November of 2017, when Phillips Murrah initiated our corporate partnership with the Thunder organization. Helping to improve the community is at the heart of our Firm’s mission, and attorneys and staff at Phillips Murrah are huge Thunder fans. So, the prospect of benefiting the work of Thunder Cares while recognizing our home team’s accomplishments in blocking shots with this exciting and entertaining campaign was irresistible.

In December of 2023, Blocks for Bucks celebrated the landmark total donation amount of $100,000. In the related article, Thunder Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, Will Syring, said:

“We are incredibly proud and grateful to have reached this milestone in our partnership with Phillips Murrah. The Thunder is committed to meaningful community engagement, and partners like Phillips Murrah continue to make it possible for us to fulfill that mission and make a difference in our communities across Oklahoma.”
