In commemorating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Phillips Murrah has donated to OU Law’s Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Chair in Civil Rights, Race, and Justice in Law.  This contribution honors the legacies of Dr. King and Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher, a prominent activist, attorney, and educator who fought to become the first African American student admitted to OU Law in 1949.

This donation will be utilized to recognize an existing or potential faculty member with the highest academic award a professor can receive. The honor will be granted to a professor who showcases a well-established involvement and extensive knowledge of civil rights law and will primarily teach and conduct research in civil rights law, election law, race and the law, anti-discrimination law, or critical race theory.

In 2023, Phillips Murrah received the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Diversity Award. The award was given to organizations with offices in the State of Oklahoma that have promoted diversity initiatives that establish and foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment.
