Phillips Murrah is proud to sponsor Oklahoma Single Parent Scholarship Program (OSPSP) through its annual fundraising event Reach for the Stars.
“OSPSP, a grassroots organization modeled after a highly successful program in Arkansas, awards scholarships to single parents in college who meet certain grade point criteria and meet the definition of a single parent—providing more than half of the support of their minor children and are single college students,” said Director Nicholle Jones Edwards.
OSPSP will raise funds for these parents at next week’s Reach for the Stars event on Sept. 15. Edwards has been a supporter of the organization since its inception and has seen OSPSP award over $100,000 in scholarships.
“My friend Ellen Ingram asked me to join the Board in its inaugural year, having started in 2016,” she said. “I have remained on the Board since 2016 and have served on the executive committee in various roles, including President in 2021.
“I am grateful for the importance placed on education in my family and strive to give back to community-driven education programs. This program started by awarding a very few scholarships to a few recipients and six years later we’ve grown to recently awarding 31 scholarships at $1,200 a person. I am honored to have been a part of this wonderful organization which helps struggling single parents stay in college and change the trajectory of their lives and their childrens’ lives.”
