Phillips Murrah was proud to attend the Palomar Legal Network’s Annual Breakfast, held on Friday, Oct. 23, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at OCU Law in Oklahoma City. The event celebrated the impact of the Palomar Legal Network and featured a presentation by Lauren Garder, LPC, on navigating vicarious trauma associated with representing victims of trauma and abuse. Attendees also received one hour of Ethics CLE credit.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the vital work that Palomar does in the community and acquire mental health strategies for attorneys assisting clients in very intense and stressful situations,” said Christin Mugg.
The Palomar Legal Network is a special program of Palomar: Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center, using volunteer attorneys who accept case referrals on a pro bono or low bono basis. Since opening its doors in 2017, Palomar has served more than 22,636 unique clients escaping violence. The network provides critical civil legal services to survivors who lack the financial resources to hire private counsel, offering assistance with Victim Protective Orders, divorce, child custody, and other legal matters. In exchange for their service, volunteer attorneys receive free continuing legal education and training on the dynamics of domestic abuse and trauma-informed care.
“Palomar’s staff and volunteers excel at what they do, and this CLE was no exception,” said Rebekah Burchfiel. “Their speaker, Lauren Garder, gave a presentation on mental health and self-care that was insightful and inspiring. It is always rewarding to support Palomar and their crucial services to Oklahoma City.”
“It was a pleasure to attend the Palomar Legal Network breakfast and presentation. I am grateful to be part of a firm that is intentional about supporting an organization doing such meaningful and important work to empower women throughout our community,” said Camryn Conroy.
Representing Phillips Murrah at the event were attorneys Rebekah Burchfiel, Camryn Conroy, and Christin Mugg.
