Phillips Murrah proudly volunteers with City Care as part of the Firm’s 40th Anniversary Community Initiative.
On Friday afternoon, Sept. 18, a group of Phillips Murrah attorneys and staff visited City Care in Oklahoma City as a part of the Firm’s Community Volunteer Initiative. City Care is a United Way Partner Agency nonprofit founded in 1996 that provides emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, and community outreach to individuals and families experiencing or transitioning out of homelessness.
After taking a tour of City Care’s Pershing Center to learn more about the nonprofit’s mission, Phillips Murrah volunteers helped organize storage areas as City Care prepares to transition from meeting summertime needs to preparing for winter. The Pershing Center, located at 2400 General Pershing Blvd., is a long-term housing facility that provides affordable housing and wrap-around support services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
“We are so grateful to have Phillips Murrah as a community partner of United Way of Central Oklahoma,” said Bridget Ramos, Corporate Volunteer & Special Events Manager for United Way of Central Oklahoma. “From sponsorships and campaign support to showing up and volunteering in the community, they are an active group who are helping support our mission every day of connecting people and resources to improve the well-being of those in our community. We appreciate the time spent at our Partner Agency, City Care, organizing, cleaning, and learning more about how they support our neighbors.”
“City Care works hard to make a positive difference in our community, and we feel it’s important to not just acknowledge that, but also to physically and financially pitch in,” said Dave Rhea, Marketing Director at Phillips Murrah. The Firm also raised $2600 to help City Care supply critical housing and support to those in need. “Being a part of the solution by supporting important organizations like City Care is at the heart of what we do at Phillips Murrah.”
Services provided by City Care’s Pershing Center include furnished individual private housing equipped for independent living, which includes utilities, on-site laundry facilities, a computer lab, showers, weight rooms, and common recreation areas, including a theater donated by the Oklahoma City Thunder. They also offer support services, including case management, healthcare coordination, employment support, life-skills training, and recovery or support groups designed to help residents establish stability.
