As Phillips Murrah celebrates 40 years of service, we’re highlighting the people whose work has helped shape the firm along the way. In this 40 for 40 profile, we spotlight Patrick Hullum and the perspective he brings to his role and to the firm’s culture.
Patrick’s path to law started with an unexpected comeback. During his junior year of college, a knee injury as a student-athlete sidelined him just as the season was hitting its stride, forcing him off the field and into surgery. When he returned to classes, he found himself facing a Business Law exam he hadn’t even known about, let alone prepared for. Walking into that test, he was terrified. When grades came out, he had earned the only A in a class of 150 students, a result that caught him completely off guard. That single exam planted a seed, and it left him wondering whether law school might be worth a look. That, along with the appeal of studying something other than football for a change, was enough to set him on a new course.
When the opportunity came to join Phillips Murrah, Patrick jumped at it without hesitation. Having already worked at other firms, he could immediately tell this one was different: a place built around genuinely good people who cared about one another, while also being sharp, capable, and well-respected in the community. It is a firm where everyone has a voice, and where that voice is genuinely valued and respected rather than simply tolerated.
Outside of work, Patrick draws his inspiration from home. His wife and their two daughters are daily reminders of courage and joy, the kind of grounding presence that puts the demands of practicing law into perspective.
