As Phillips Murrah celebrates 40 years of service, we’re highlighting the people whose work has helped shape the firm along the way. In this 40 for 40 Profile, we spotlight G. Calvin Sharpe and the perspective he brings to his role and to the firm’s culture.
For G., practicing law was just a matter of following in his father’s footsteps. Glenn Sharpe, G’s dad, recently retired at 90 after a long and very successful legal career. Like his dad, G. attended the University of Oklahoma for his undergraduate and law school studies.
G. joined Phillips Murrah in 2009, at which time he was already an experienced trial attorney. G. was drawn to Phillips Murrah by its well-known culture of teamwork and camaraderie, which was an immediate fit for G. His wife, Carla, remembers how, after G.’s first week with Phillips Murrah, he could not stop talking about how nice everyone was and how much they all seemed to like each other and were able to work together. That team atmosphere was all G. needed to find further success. Over the years, he has been recognized for his outstanding work as a defense attorney with 30+ successful jury trials under his belt.
What G. values most about Phillips Murrah are the strong bonds he has with his colleagues, bonds that have been particularly meaningful to him this last year. In June 2025, G. was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), a neurodegenerative disease that progressively causes the body’s muscles to weaken–but that does not impair mental capacity. Although his physical symptoms have worsened over the last year, his love of practicing law has never waned. And with the love and daily support of his Phillips Murrah family, he has been able to continue working. G. says Phillips Murrah is a shining example of what it means for family and friends to stand together in the face of life’s adversities.
Outside of work, G. enjoys spending time with his friends and family, in particular his grandsons Hudson and Hayes, and his two French bulldogs, Windy and R.J.
