As Phillips Murrah celebrates 40 years of service, we’re highlighting the people whose work has helped shape the firm along the way. In this 40 for 40 Profile, we spotlight Heather Hintz and the perspective she brings to her role and to the firm’s culture.
Heather joined Phillips Murrah after a path that began with a lifelong love of reading, writing, learning, solving puzzles and mysteries, and yes, arguing. A fifth-grade field trip to watch courtroom proceedings presided over by DuPage County Circuit Court Judge William E. Black was the moment she realized there were professions where you could do all of those things. When she moved to Oklahoma, she was recruited to Murrah and Davis. That firm later merged with the Phillips firm, and she has stayed for many reasons over the years. In her current role, she focuses on helping clients navigate and satisfactorily resolve complex problems and disputes, including work for clients who operate in the world of humane treatment of animals, an area she has been fortunate to work in for decades.
A defining moment in her career was her work alongside Phillips Murrah lawyers and many other talented professionals in defending complicated taxpayer qui tam cases involving the development of the Bricktown area of Oklahoma City in the late 1990s and 2000s. That work helped create the bedrock of what is now an established body of Oklahoma qui tam law, and the results are visible every day.
What Heather values most about Phillips Murrah is the firm’s consistent ability to blend engaging and retaining skilled practitioners with maintaining a supportive and collegial atmosphere and culture. She believes the firm’s commitment to and encouragement of community engagement have contributed to its success over the past 40 years.
Outside of work, Heather finds sustenance in visiting art museums and protected wilderness areas, and volunteer work in early childhood education. These things help keep her perspective and balance.
