As Phillips Murrah celebrates 40 years of service, we’re highlighting the people whose work has helped shape the firm along the way. In this 40 for 40 Profile, we spotlight Marc Edwards and the perspective he brings to his role and to the firm’s culture.
Marc joined Phillips Murrah after a path that began with several inspiring college professors who led him to pursue law. After graduating from Tulsa Law School, his first job was with the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office, where he focused on regulatory and administrative law. A friend of one of the founding partners introduced him to Phillips Murrah, and he made the move. The culture proved so welcoming and rewarding that he has always said that if he is going to practice law, then it is going to be at Phillips Murrah and nowhere else.
A defining moment in his career came about 25 years ago, when he responded to an ad in the bar journal for an attorney for the Oklahoma Firefighters Pension and Retirement System. He was fortunate enough to be selected and has been representing the pension system ever since. That initial opportunity opened the door for him and other attorneys at Phillips Murrah to represent the public pension systems in the state, and this has become the foundation of his law practice.
What Marc values most about Phillips Murrah is the family-like atmosphere and culture that has been part of the firm since its inception. The firm has always been open to change and trying new things in firm management and the practice of law. Marc says this is evident today, as the firm has both a female president and a majority of female partners. He believes that diversity and open-mindedness are something to be proud of and have been central to the firm’s success over the past 40 years.
