2025’s regatta season ended with a bang on Friday night as Phillips Murrah’s rowing team, Law and Oarder, had a contested finish of 3rd in Heat 1, only 7/10ths off of the second-place time. That would have been it for the night but, because of the contention in the first race between 2nd and 3rd place due to equipment malfunction, it was determined that Law and Oarder would race in the ARL Co-Ed Experienced finale against four other teams. Kicking up the pace in the last 100 meters of the final race, and after passing two other boats, Law and Oarder finished 3rd.
“Regatta night was a bit crazy, but we never gave up hope,” said Deena Baker, P|M legal assistant and rowing team co-captain. “Team Law and Oarder had a lot of power in the boat this season. It wasn’t easy, but we pulled out third place with a 02:02.478 time. No disappointment with that time at all!”
“Just like any sport, practice makes perfect,” added Sam Lincoln, P|M IT Director and rowing team co-captain. “Even after 11 years of rowing, I continue to learn new techniques and tweaks to help shave off seconds from our race times. This couldn’t be possible though without excellent coaching and teammates that are also open to improving their own skills along the way. I’m extremely proud of our team and the effort they put forth this season.”
Friday was the second of two Regatta Festivals (summer & fall) during the RiversportOKC Corporate Rowing League. Teams practice 11 weeks in the fall season and 12 in the spring, both culminating in championship racing during OG&E NightSprints under the lights.
Win, lose, or draw, Phillips Murrah is proud to offer important (and fun!) opportunities, such as our corporate rowing team, as an integral part of our Firm’s overall employment culture experience.
Congratulations to Law and Oarder for another great season!
