Phillips Murrah was proud to sponsor OU’s Black Law Students Association’s (BLSA) Black History Month Dinner and their Annual Trip to the Greenwood District. Phillips Murrah Attorney Camille N. Burge attended the dinner on February 22. Then, on Sunday, February 23, six members of the BLSA were sent to Tulsa to visit the Greenwood Rising Black Wall St. History Center.

BLSA President Leah N. Bush said, “It is always a wonderful time when BLSA has the opportunity to strengthen the community between our current members, dedicated alumni, and prospective students. Our chapter was happy to provide a space where this could be made possible.”

Bush continued, “We were glad to revisit the Greenwood Rising Black Wall St. History Center and learn about Black Oklahoma’s rich history and perseverance. We look forward to continuing to serve our community, and we are grateful to PM for allowing us to do so.”

The local chapter of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) is named after Dr. Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher, the first African American student admitted to OU Law. Dr. Fisher’s Supreme Court case, which Thurgood Marshall litigated, desegregated OU Law and contributed to the landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education.
