After months of fundraising, two teams of Phillips Murrah employees, families, and friends celebrated the Firm’s community efforts at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake annual event.

Organized by the Big Brothers Big Sisters, AMF Windsor Lanes welcomed Phillips Murrah and other fundraising groups for a night of bowling fun on Aug. 29.

Phillips Murrah Director Byrona Maule spearheaded the campaign for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“Bowl for Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ signature fundraiser. Every year, half a million people across America come together to have fun and raise money to support Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Byrona said. “Bowl for Kids’ Sake is the fun and easy way for individuals and companies to make an impact on our local community—and Phillips Murrah is proud to support Big Brother Big Sisters by participating in Bowl for Kids’ Sake. This year the Oklahoma City Bowl for Kids’ Sake raised over $56,000 to support matches – and the campaign isn’t over until the end of the month!  This money will go to directly support matches in the Oklahoma City area.”

The Firm hosts a series of events and raffle drawings to garner support for the campaign and raise money to help the organization’s cause.

“A big thank you to everyone at Phillips Murrah who supported the fund raisers, bowled, and came out to support BBBS!”

Byrona is a passionate community advocate, who has devoted much of her life to volunteerism and philanthropy. She is currently serving on the Governing Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters for a second time, having previously served from 2012–2015, including as Chair from 2013–2015. Byrona’s distinguished service to Big Brothers Big Sisters began in 1990, when she became a Big Sister to Vanessa—a relationship that enriched her life in ways she never imagined. To date, she’s had three Little Sisters complete the program. Byrona joined the BBBS Oklahoma City Area Resource Board in 2007. Since then, her devotion has garnered awards that include Big Sister of the Year, Oklahoma City in 2009, Big Sister of the Year, State of Oklahoma in 2009, and the celebrated Champion of the Year, State of Oklahoma in 2011. Also, Byrona, along with her husband Marvin, won the Big Couple Match for their match with little brother Quintin in 2013.

Big Brothers Big Sisters operates under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities in Oklahoma. BBBS develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
