BIOGRAPHY
Scott M. Rayburn serves as Of Counsel to Phillips Murrah in the Transactional and Energy & Natural Resources Practice Groups. His practice includes representing individuals and both privately-held and public companies in a wide variety of transactional matters including initial structuring and organization, documentation of the relationship between the owners, assisting in acquiring capital and assets, growth and financing and eventual harvesting of the business through a sale, IPO, succession to heirs or other methods.
He has been involved in the raising of private equity financing of more than $2 billion and has also assisted owners with angel investors and smaller financings. His transactional experience includes multiple complex business transactions in energy, hospitality/restaurants, real estate and emerging technologies as well as dealing with daily legal issues, investors, contracts, asset acquisitions and sales and general business and corporate matters. Scott prides himself on assisting businesses in “making and closing the deal” rather than acting as a hindrance or impediment.
Prior to joining Phillips Murrah, Scott was a principal, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and VP-General Counsel for Canaan Natural Gas Management, LLC, the Oklahoma City based manager of two private equity funds. He also is an adjunct professor in the University of Oklahoma’s Price School of Business where he teaches Entrepreneurial Law and Entrepreneurial Process and has received numerous awards for his teaching.
Scott holds an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named as an Oklahoma Top Rated Lawyer. Raised and currently living in Oklahoma City, he and his wife, Janet, have three adult daughters. In his spare time, Scott enjoys sports, golf and travelling.
