Gardner, Davis explore Oklahoma water laws, regulation in webinar presentation

Director Melissa R. Gardner and Attorney C. Eric Davis participated in a live webinar hosted by HalfMoon Education Inc. on July 13, examining issues related to regulating Oklahoma’s water utilities.

Melissa Gardner is a Director who practices in the Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group.

“By exploring how Oklahoma regulates potable water systems, our main goal was to show that laws impacting drinking water supplies are aimed at keeping water safe and affordable for residents and businesses,” Davis said.

Pulling from their respective legal experience, Gardner explained water utility organization and requirements under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and its enforcement by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, and Davis discussed regulation of certain water utilities by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, current issues in utility service area regulations, and water system construction and design standards.

Webinar attendees earned continuing legal education credit through HalfMoon Education Inc.

Gardner is a Director in Phillips Murrah’s Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group and represents energy companies and mineral owners in a variety of matters in Oklahoma, Texas, and North Dakota, including oil and gas title examination, bankruptcy, probate, quiet title, surface damages issues, and lien preparation and enforcement.
